About
I believe in movement as an integrated expression of the body’s energy.
With over 40 years experience, my work offers a holistic and cross-disciplinary approach to learning through the arts, scientific study, and community action. I use my background in dance, theater, science, yoga and body-work to facilitate connection to ourselves, each other and the Earth. It is my belief, that through this integration, we can begin to change the current course of global environmental events and affect positive outcomes for humanity.
My career as a performing artist began at Lincoln Center with my Bronx based community theater troupe. This inspired me to attend Bennington College, where I studied dance and choreography, under Judith Dunn, one of the pioneers of the post-modern dance movement. After two national dance tours, I continued to perform in sites across Manhattan and in Paris.
I was always interested in dance as a cathartic, healing art form and decided to continue my studies under Andre Bernard at NYU. My Master’s degree in Dance, Health and Medicine combined Eastern approaches to the body with the exploration of western-based research by Feldenkrais, Alexander and Mable Ellsworth Todd on brain-body interactions.
I was invited as guest artist to the Institute for Art and Cultural Perception in Paris, where I collaborated with the program’s founder, Alan Silva. Together we composed Jazz Operas and offered workshops in improvisation.
I began my serious study of yoga when I met my teacher: Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, founder of Sahaj Yoga, in 1994 and have been meditating daily ever since. Meditation has deepened my awareness of the subtle energy that binds all living processes and has become the focus of my work, both as an artist and scientist.
Later in my career, as Director of Education for a school of massage therapy, I developed programs in anatomy, physiology, body awareness and mechanics. As a professor at Bergen Community College, I created the first for-credit yoga program. I volunteered in local schools, creating dance pieces and heading environmental clubs. I lead a 150 student strong group, the “Earth Watchers,” and spearheaded performances to raise awareness about recycling our resources, through dance and song. I loved working with young people and pursued a second Master’s in Education through the NYC Teaching Fellows. Through the Fellows program, I became a science teacher in the NYC public school system.
In 2020, I moved with my family to the Catskill Mountains where we are creating an art & education center. Arts Inn will be opening soon and will offer live performances and workshops to the local and online community.
I continue to learn as I dance and teach at Arts Inn and imbibe the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Daily, I am witness to the flow of energy that gives this world its many colors, that moves us to dance and unites us all.
